How important is CUT?
Monday, August 15th, 2011More often than not, the next time you walk into a jewelry store you will be greeted by a trained sales professional eager to make their pitch on the importance of CUT, “the most important of all C’s”, or so they say. Yes, Cut is very important when selecting your diamond because it plays an important role in the amount of brilliance you diamond will exude. However, it would be an exageration to state that it is THE most important. It’s really quite logical if you think about it. A diamonds cut no matter how perfect cannot make an inclusion disappear, or a yellow diamond look whiter. A perfectly cut diamond will not make your diamond look larger either. A well cut diamond can give your already clean white diamond a more brilliant display, so much so that it draws your attention better than others; but it will not make you perceive something that is not already present. There is a very simple reason why gemologists still categorize diamonds based on the 4 c’s. It is a combination of these 4 important characteristics that identify a diamond accurately.
